Our Story
Continuing the history of Dansville
Angie’s occupies the site of the former Main Barber Shop, a mainstay of Dansville since its opening in 1940. This vintage-themed ice cream parlor still features some of the classic barber shop flair, and pays tribute to the history of the building in both name and décor.
The name, “Angie’s,” is an homage to Angelo “Ang” Belliotti, who owned and operated the Main Barber Shop for 50 years, from 1940 to 1990. For a time, Angelo and his family even lived in the one bedroom apartment above the shop. His son, Ray, speaks reverently of his father and his time spent growing up and working around the small, 3-chair barber shop. Ray recalls the generations of family working side-by-side; the other barber chairs were operated at one point by Angelo’s father, Rosario Belliotti, and his uncle, Joe Belliotti, throughout the years. Ray recalls his father always sensed kinship with his community, and he "invariably responded on a human level." This is what led Angelo to hire the first female barber in Dansville, Bonnie Wiedman.
Angie’s Ice Cream Shoppe was designed and built with an attention to detail and theming throughout. From the custom millwork of the ice cream counter, to the original tin ceiling that’s been lovingly restored, everything in the renovation was locally built and sourced. Angie's Ice Cream Shoppe was aimed to revitalize an existing structure and creating a new offering for Dansville residents to enjoy, while still honoring and celebrating the history of the building.
Angie's Ice Cream Shoppe is located at 172 Main Street Dansville, NY. Angie’s opened May 22, 2021. The shop will be open days and evenings during the week and will close seasonally during the winter.
